1961:Joined Blue Funnel Line as Midshipman, serving on liner ships mainly to the Far East and Australia. Served as a Deck Officer, qualifying as Master Mariner (Foreign Going).

1974: Moved ashore to Ocean McGregor as Assistant Chartering Broker and joined the Baltic Exchange.

1976-1981: Worked as an owners’ broker, charterers agent and competitive broker covering various deep sea dry cargo trades from 7,000 DWT up to 70,000DWT.

1981: Joined the Fenton Steamship Company – European General Agents for Hellenic Lines – as Chartering Manager for the tramping fleet of Bulk Carriers and Tankers managed by Trade & Transport Inc., Piraeus.

1984-date: Founding Director of Trade & Transport (UK) Ltd to carry on the tramping activities of Trade & Transport Group after the demise of Hellenic Lines. The fleet make up varies but generally a mixture of bulk carriers and tankers mainly trading on the spot market.

Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, - 1975 qualified as AICS

1976: FICS – examiner Economics of Sea Transport, member of the Education Committee. Lectured, part time, at the City of London Polytechnic on Economics of Sea Transport, developed an interest in the professional education in the shipping business.

1989/1999: Chairman Education Committee

1997/1999: Vice Chairman Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers

1999/2001: Chairman Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers

2002/: Chairman Board of Examiners and Assessors

  • Seatrade Academy, Anatomy of Shipping:– the Tanker Markets
  • Cambridge Academy of Transport:- "The Business of Shipping", various international locations including, Norway, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Venezuela, Panama.
  • "Chartering a Practical Approach" – Tanker Chartering.
  • Tanker Chartering and Documentation – Course leader, one week residential course.
